Love all the comments here about health and safety. In the late 1960s - 6million cars on the road and 8000 dead on a year. In 2023 33 million cars on the the road and 1600 deaths. Someone now explain how things are worse?! 😂
Brilliant video, only seems like yesterday to me.
July 2024. Hats off to those hardcore police men of the 70s They really did their jobs properly and risk them too. I was only a 10 year old back then and remembered those long sideburns, dustbin jacket wearing hard men of the 70s. Just like those actors in the sweeneys. I really really wished that I could relive that era of time in the UK. Very special times back them
Watched this as a young lad been on M62 many times on the way to holidays as a teen in N Wales .
C32 Heywood's 1st pump and Range Rover LRV. Very much my era. Those plastic chemical suits were a PITA to don en route especially in the cold. It was like trying to put on suit of armour on the back of a galloping horse. Some rather familiar faces on here.
The lorry driver explaining how he was innocently driving along in the centre lane when this aggressive minivan picked a fight with the poor innocent tanker when it was totally obvious he'd hit the rear off side off the van moving to the nearside lane and whipped the van right across the front. If the van had done has the lorry driver claimed it would have been a simple collision but the mini would not have spun across the front as it would have been travelling faster than the lorry. They keep a straight face whilst spinning their harness but the facts speak for themselves and the van drivers version matches the physics and the evidence. Nice try lorry driver put it's going to be 'good morning your honour'.
the good old days with no wokery and identifying t pots😅

what is the song called and who it is sung by please?
Julie Fowlis - Parting Glass
@@yonmons thank you it sounds very nice
Such an emotional watch. Thank you for uploading Gary
50:22 Copper just having fun with the lads, skating on icy motorway closure Really make my Day
Thanks for the upload
cops would tell people off back then.
I'd have been 7 years old when this was filmed! Lol them 5 thousand pounds cars, with there fancy disc brakes ay!😆
Wow incredible bit of documentary making.
Class film !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.
This is like opening up a motoring time capsule of pure Gold. Absolutely AMAZING footage of bygone times from my early childhood. Great upload. Thank you, this was a pure pleasure to watch. !
This is really good! Whats the name of thr First Song???
That motorist at 49 mins you've come through a lane closure are u a idiot or something 😮😮lol the motorist would sue you for hurting there feelings these days.😢😢
I remember this winter well I was eight great time to be a kid in the snow it was a bad one .🥶
GMP in those days were REAL heroes of the M62....
Just noticed no headrest in Range Rover
Brilliant. When folk didnt mess around and got the job done. Ex police Range Rover for sale. Er no thanks😂
Been searching for some time for this excellent video, I remember watching it when it was first shown on tv. Dont think modern Range Rovers could take that punishment , the traffic cops too are a tougher breed compared with today, health and safety hadnt been invented then.., it was known as common sense.
2 Range Rovers pulling the jack knifed trailer is epic, the beauty of full time 4 wheel drive.
Some bad habits don't change, similar lane and speed behaviour on Australian roads, in addition to the misuse of mobile phones.
Absolutely sterling Men of the Police.
This is when england was england
At 26:01 nice to see that moronic behavior was fully functional back then as it is today .. I am special , I have to drive thru your roadblocks to get a pint.
Lane hogging was a thing in the 80's people are still thick and don't understand how to use a motorway
Some of these range rovers have been preserved
Puts modern policing and highways agency to shame . Proper men doing proper graft back in the day
03:12 notice his hand shaking? PTSD maybe.
1975 (bm) - Before Muslims
the police today would not have a clue. just a bunch of lazy job worth fairy’s
Dear god, they had to be brave and fit to do that job! It's also interesting to see how systems and infrastructure have improved in the last 40 years to help minimise and deal with issues. The proponents of Smart motorways might note how important the hard shoulder is for these guys as well :)
Having noticed with these Range Rovers particularly the bonnets being painted black. Was this just a livery thing? or is there a reason for the black finish, does anyone know?
Usually that's to stop sun reflection from the bonnet dazzling the driver
This is the best video I have seen this year.
"what we don't want is people sat in the middle lane".….. sadly some things don't change. Except now lazy middle lane hogs contribute to even more acute congestion.
Love the Range Rovers ! 👍
Bloody wolly woofter coppers nowdays just close off both sides of the road for at least 8 hours and let everyone else do the work.
Yes and you can see why right here. Running between cars doing 70mph is taking your life in your hands. Being an emergency service worker does not mean risking death so drivers don't have to slow down, and spending hundreds of thousands on training police officers will hopefully prepare them to coordinate the situation rather than waste their time picking up thousands of plastic bags, for example. Seems reasonable.
Car stuck on ice . " its like being on ice " classic. Proper winters back then
Bloke speaking fluent German then boom a proper reet northern accent comes out class lol
Jam buttys brings back memories in the 3.0 granada
Excellent documentary which I eventually saw in 1981 having missed the original broadcast in 1979. I can't remember whether it were made by Granada or Yorkshire TV, but 10 out of 10 to both the emergency services & the filmmakers for putting their lives at risk, especially when the Arctic weather kicked in & unsurprisingly closed the M62
JUST SHOWS THE PIGS THINK THEY CAN GET AWAY WITH TALKING TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC LIKE SHIT
THE DRIVER THEY WAS TALKING TO AT 16:43 SOUNDS LIKE JIMMY SAVILLE OH GOD! 😲🥺 AND THE OTHER AT 11.40 LOOKS LIKE THE AWFULLY NICE SERGEANT WILSON FROM DADS ARMY
Interesting to see a 1973-1979 generation Chevrolet K5 Blazer at 27:27, would have been a very fresh US import at the time.
Great to see proper police doing their job
I actuall worked the M62 up until 1979 with all these Officers, many have sadly passed away, but it was a hectic Motorway, but great camararderie
@22:50 , nowadays the cop would have been suspended for harassment, illegal stop and search, lose his job and career.
